Description to Badacsony

The wine-growing area in Hungary is situated at the south-western end of the northern shore of Lake Balaton, which, like all waters, has a positive influence on the climate. It is one of the most famous of Hungary, the wine from here is also called the "nectar of the gods". The vineyards cover about 1,800 hectares on the slopes of volcanic hills that protect from the cold north wind. Here, above all, powerful, fruity and storable white wines are produced. The most important varieties are Kéknyelü, Olaszrizling(Welschriesling), Ottonel Muskotály(Muscat Ottonel), Rizlingszilváni(Müller-Thurgau), Sauvignon Blanc and Szürkebarat(Pinot Gris). The red wines are made from the varieties Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are produced, and in years with good weather conditions, noble sweet wines are also produced(Aszú). Well-known producers are Badacsonyi Pincegazdaság, Fischer Alfred, Laposa, Szeremley Huba and Varga Pincészet.
