Appellation (Grch. Naousa) in the district of Imathia in the Greek region of Macedonia, named after the town of the same name. The vineyards cover around 700 hectares of vines in nine municipalities on the south-eastern slopes of the Vermio massif (2052 m) at an altitude of 150 to 350 metres above sea level. The climate is characterised by abundant rainfall and cool winters. The POP red wine is made from the only authorised autochthonous grape variety, Xinomavro. It is mainly produced dry, but in small quantities also semi-dry and "lieblich" and matured. Well-known producers are Arampatzi, Boutari, Byzantine Vineyards, Cavino, Château Pegasus, Chrysohoou Estate, Dalamara Winery, Diamandakos, Foundi, Giorgiadis, Karydas, Kastaniotis, Katogi Averoff, Kir Yianni, Melitzanis, Tsantali, Thymiopoulos and the Vaeni Naoussa winegrowers' cooperative.
