Ghemme DOCG

Description to Ghemme DOCG

DOCG area for red wine in the Italian region of Piedmont. It was classified as DOC in 1969 and then upgraded in 1995. The name goes back to the Celtic tribe of the Agamics, who already practised viticulture here. The zone covers about 50 hectares of vineyards in the two municipalities of Ghemme and Romagnano Sesia on the eastern side of the Sesia valley in the province of Novara. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna can be indicated on the bottle label followed by the vineyard name. The ruby-red, spicy wine with a slightly bitter finish is made from Spanna = Nebbiolo (to. 85%), as well as Vespolina and/or Uva Rara (to max. 15%). The prescribed ageing period is 34 months, 18 months of which are in wooden barrels. In the case of Riserva, this is 46 months, 24 of which are in wooden barrels.
