Description to D.O. Sierras de Málaga

This DO area corresponds geographically to the DO area of Malaga and thus covers just under 1,200 hectares of vineyards. The classification was made in 2001 and includes still wines (red wines, rosé wines and white wines) with less than 15% alcohol by volume. A large number of grape varieties are permitted. The red and rosé wines are mainly made from Romé, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Graciano, Malbec (Cot), Monastrell, Jaén Tinto and Blaufränkisch blends. The white wines are mainly made from Pedro Ximénez, Moscatel de Málaga (Muscat d'Alexandrie), Moscatel Morisco (Muscat Blanc), Chardonnay, Macabeo, Sauvignon Blanc, Lairén, Doradilla and Colombard, Montúa (Chelva), Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Verdejo and Garnacha Blanca.
