Description to Vins d´Entraygues-et-du-Fel AOC
The appellation is located in the northeast of the southwest region of France in the départements of Aveyron and, to a small extent, Cantal. The former VDQS area was classified as AOP in 2012. Viticulture here dates back to the 9th century, the first vineyards were planted by the Benedictine monks of Conques. The area is divided into two parts and comprises 22 hectares of vineyards on terraced, south-facing steep slopes with a high proportion of slate from the valleys formed by the two rivers Lot and Truyère.
The first part covers eight hectares in the commune of Entraygues-sur-Truyère, where mainly white wines from Chenin Blanc and Mauzac Blanc are pressed. The second part is located in the hilly region of Fel, a few kilometres away, with the communes of Le Fel and Viellevie, and covers 14 hectares. Here mainly rosé and red wines from Mansois(Fer), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Gamay, Négrette, Pinot Noir, Jurançon Noir and Mouyssaguès are produced. Similar wines are produced in the Vins d'Estaing area to the south.
