Vernaccia di Serrapetrona DOC |
Description to Vernaccia di Serrapetrona DOC
DOCG area for red spumante in the Italian region of Marche. The DOC classification, which has existed since 1971, was elevated to DOCG in 2003. The zone covers 17 hectares of vineyards in the name-giving municipality of Serrapetrona and partly the two municipalities of Belforte del Chienti and San Severino Marche in the province of Macerata. A sparkling wine was already produced here in the 15th century. It is made from slightly dried grapes of the Vernaccia Nera variety (85%), as well as Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Ciliegiolo (15% max.) in the two varieties secco and dolce. The name Vigna (from a hilly area) may be used on the label.
