V.T. de Castilla

Description to V.T. de Castilla

The huge IGP area Castilla (Spanish for Castile) covers the entire Spanish autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha. Within it are a number of DO areas as enclaves, including the largest Spanish wine-growing area of La Man cha. Two thirds of the Vino de la Tierra or PGI(local wines) are red wines, the rest are mainly white wines, with rosé wines making up only 6%. There are also a small number of white liqueur wines, sparkling wines and Vino de Aguja (semi-sparkling wine). The majority are mass-produced wines of simple quality. Production is distributed among 15,000 grape-only winegrowers, but only around 180 bodegas. Two thirds of the wine is exported, mainly to Germany.

The vineyards cover around 130,000 hectares. The authorised red wine varieties are Bobal, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cencibel (Tempranillo), Garnacha Tinta, Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Henri Bouschet), Merlot, Monastrell, Moravia Agria, Moravia Dulce (Marufo), Negral, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Tinto Velasco, as well as the white wine varieties Airén, Albillo, Chardonnay, Macabeo, Malvar (Lairén), Sauvignon Blanc, Merseguera, Moscatel de Grano Menudo (Muscat Blanc), Pardillo, Pedro Ximénez and Torrontés.

In this section you will find
currently 165,358 Wines and 25,033 Producers, including 3,160 classified producers.
