Description to Recioto di Soave DOCG
DOCG area for white wine in the Italian region of Veneto. The wine type of the DOC area Soave, which is identical in area, was highly classified in 1998. The zone includes the municipalities of Caldiero, Cazzano di Tramigna, Colognola ai Colli, Illasi, Lavagno, Mezzane di Sotto, Montecchia di Crosara, Monteforte d'Alpone, Roncà, San Bonifacio, San Giovanni Ilarione, San Martino Buon Albergo and Soave in the province of Verona. The Classico area includes the municipalities of Monteforte d'Alpone and Soave. It is situated on the often steep south and south-west slopes between the two towns at an altitude of between 100 and 350 metres above sea level. The vineyards cover about 6,500 hectares east of Verona in the alluvial plain of the Adige river. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna can be indicated followed by the name of the vineyard.
The sweet dessert wine is produced according to the Recioto method, which is so called here. For this, particularly ripe grapes are selected and dried. It is blended from the local varieties Garganega (zum. 70%), Trebbiano di Soave/Trebbiano Nostrano = Verdicchio Bianco (max. 30%, of which max. 5% other approved varieties). The alcohol content must be at least 12% vol. The wine is straw-yellow to amber in colour and has an aroma of fruit, raisins, figs, honey and malt. Wines from the core area may use the BV designation Recioto di Soave Classico. There is also a spumante with at least 11.5% alcohol by volume.
