Kosovo
Description to Kosovo
The republic in Southeastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula was formerly part of Yugoslavia and from 2003 was an autonomous province of Serbia. In February 2008, it proclaimed its independence by parliamentary resolution. Kosovo is divided into two wine-growing regions, Juzni and Severni. Before the war, the vineyards covered about 10,000 hectares of land with mainly the red wine varieties Cabernet Franc, Gamay and Pinot Noir as well as Riesling. On the border with Albania, the famous branded wine Amselfelder (Kosovsko Vino) is grown. The vineyards and many wineries are only now being rebuilt after the years of confusion.
