DOC area for white wine and red wine in the Italian Marche region. The zone named after the river of the same name covers the entire province of Ancona and the municipalities of Apiro, Camerino, Castelraimondo, Cingoli, Esanatoglia, Gagliole, Matelica and Pioraco in the province of Macerata. The Bianco (also known as Frizzante) is produced from Verdicchio Bianco (50%) and other authorised varieties (max. 50%). The Rosso (also as Novello) is produced from Sangiovese and/or Montepulciano (60%), as well as other approved varieties (max. 40%).
