Description to D.O. Almansa
The Spanish DO area with about 7,600 hectares of vineyards is named after the village of the same name, the name comes from the Moorish "Al-Amankha" (dry place). The area belongs to the large region of La Mancha. The vineyards are located at 700 metres above sea level. About half of the area is planted with the red Monastrell, others are Cencibel (Tempranillo) and in small quantities Cabernet Sauvignon. The red wines account for 85% of the production, the white wines are made from Merseguera and Airén. Well known producers are Coop. del Campo Santa Cruz and Bodegas Piqueras.
