Description to Asolo Prosecco DOCG
DOCG area (until 2014 Colli Aselano Prosecco was also permitted) for white wines in the Italian region of Veneto. The wine previously included in the DOC area Montello e Colli Asolani was highly qualified in 2009. The zone's vineyards cover 870 hectares of vines in the municipalities of Asolo, Caerano di San Marco, Castelcucco, Cavaso del Tomba, Cornuda, Crocetta del Montello, Fonte, Giavera del Montello, Maser, Monfumo, Montebelluna, Nervesa della Battaglia, Paderno del Grappa, Pederobba, Possagno, San Zenone degli Ezzelini and Volpago del Montello in the province of Treviso.
The wine is made from at least 85% Glera (formerly known as Prosecco) and a maximum of 15% Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera and Glera Lunga. Traditionally, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco (Pinot Blanc), Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris) and white-pressed Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) may also be used for the 15% Spumante. There are the wine types Prosecco (Tranquillo = still wine with 10.5% alcohol by volume), Prosecco Frizzante (10.5% by volume) and Prosecco Spumante Superiore (11% by volume). Another DOCG area for Prosecco in Veneto is Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Prosecco.
