The zone covers 200 hectares of vineyards in mainly hilly areas in the four provinces of Chieti (75 communes), L'Aquila (36), Pescara (41) and Teramo (38). The Bianco is produced from Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and/or Trebbiano Toscano (max. 50%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 50%). The Passito Bianco is blended with Malvasia varieties, Moscato (Muscat Blanc), Passerina, Pecorino, Riesling, Sauvignon (Sauvignon Blanc) and Traminer.
The single-varietal wines are made from at least 85% of the respective variety and a maximum of 15% of other authorised grapes. These are the white wines Cococciola, Malvasia (Malvasia Bianca di Candia), Montonico (Montonico Bianco), Passerina and Pecorino, all of which are also available as Superiore. The Rosso is made from at least 80%, the Passito Rosso from at least 60% Montepulciano. A Spumante is available as Bianco Metodo Italiano (Méthode charmat) and Bianco Metodo Classico (bottle fermentation) from all varieties, as well as Rosé Metodo Italiano and Rosé Metodo Classico from at least 60% Montepulciano. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna can be indicated followed by the vineyard name.
