Vin Santo di Montepulciano DOC |
Description to Vin Santo di Montepulciano DOC
DOC area for Vin Santo in the Italian region of Tuscany. The zone includes Montepulciano in the province of Siena and is identical to the DOCG area Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. From the 2019 vintage onwards, the designation on the label has been supplemented with "Toscana". This is to avoid any confusion with the DOCG wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane (Abruzzo). The straw-yellow to amber Vin Santo di Montepulciano is blended from Malvasia Bianca Lunga and/or Pulcinculo = Grechetto di Orvieto and/or Trebbiano Toscano (to 70%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 30%). There is also a longer matured Riserva. The salmon-red Vin Santo di Montepulciano Occhio di Pernice is produced from Prugnolo Gentile = Sangiovese clone (50%), as well as other approved varieties (max. 50%).
