Description to Loupiac AOC
The appellation is located in the south of the large Entre-deux-Mers area (Bordeaux). Here, viticulture was already documented in the 13th century. It forms an enclave in the appellation Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. The vineyards cover 400 hectares of vineyards on clayey limestone soil on the right bank of the Garonne. Opposite, on the other bank, are the two better quality areas of Barsac and Sauternes. The Loupiac appellation covers noble sweet white wines from the Sémillon (at least 85%), Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle varieties, which are considered the best sweet wines of the Entre-Deux-Mers area. Well-known wineries are Clos Jean, Château de Ricaud (owner Alain Thiénot), Château Loupiac-Gaudiet and Château Rondillon.
