DOC area for white wines and red wines in the Italian Marche Region. The zone covers the entire province of Macerata and the municipality of Loreto in the province of Ancona. The Bianco (also as Passito and Spumante) is blended from Ribona = Maceratino (zum. 70%), in any use of the varieties Incrocio Bruni 54, Pecorino, Trebbiano Toscano, Verdicchio Bianco, Chardonnay, Sauvignon = Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasia Bianca Lunga and Grechetto di Orvieto (max. 30%), and possibly other authorised varieties (max. 15%).
Rosso (also known as Novello and Riserva) is produced from Sangiovese (to 50%), in any use Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Ciliegiolo, Lacrima = Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, Merlot, Montepulciano and Vernaccia Nera = Garnacha Tinta (max. 50%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 15%). The pure varietal wines Ribona (also as Passito and Spumante) and Sangiovese must contain at least 85% of the respective variety and, if necessary, a maximum of 15% of other approved varieties.
