Fonséranes AOC |
Description to Fonséranes AOC
The appellation Languedoc-Fonséranes is located in the centre of the French wine region Languedoc. It was classified as AOC in 2016 and belongs to the second quality category "Grands Vins du Languedoc". The vineyards are situated in the form of an amphitheatre around the commune of Béziers in a total of 11 communes in the Département of Hérault. They are named after the "Écluses de Fonseranne", declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a lock staircase with six steps or chambers in the Canal du Midi, which connects Toulouse with the Mediterranean. The red wines are blended from at least 2 of the 3 main grape varieties Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre(Monastrell) and Syrah, as well as Carignan Noir(Mazuelo) and Cinsaut. Well known producers are Domaine Galtier, Domaine Querelle, Vermeil du Cres de la Coopérative de Sérignan, Domaine Castan, Domaine le Nouveau Monde, Château Le Vernede, Domaine Vanho and Château Le Thou.
