Bourgueil AOC |
Description to Bourgueil AOC
Appellation for red and rosé wines in the west of the Touraine area in the French Loire wine region on the right bank of this river. The vineyards cover 1,250 hectares of vineyards on sandy, gravel and sandstone soils and are crossed by the Loire tributary Changeon. They are almost entirely planted with the Cabernet Franc variety (here Breton). The tannin-rich and long-lasting red wines produced here are made from Cabernet Franc (at least 90%) and Cabernet Sauvignon. A rosé is also produced in small quantities. The commune of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil in the northwest of the area has the right to its own appellation. Well known producers are Amirault, Domaine du Chêne Arrault, Hubert Audebert, Domaine du Bel Air, Billet, Jacky Blot, Domaine Breton, Caslot, Max Cognard, Domaine Delaunay, Domaine Druet, Paul Gambier, Pascal Lorieux, Domaine des Mailloches, Jean-Paul Malibeau and Clos des Quarterons.
