Description to Dolcetto di Ovada DOC
DOC area for red wines in the Italian region of Piedmont, which was classified in 1972. It includes 1.500 hectares of vineyards on both sides of the Orba Valley in the province of Alessandria, including the municipalities of Belforte Monferrato, Bosio, Capriata d'Orba, Carpeneto, Casaleggio Boiro, Cassinelle, Castelletto d'Orba, Cremolino, Lerma, Molare, Montaldeo, Montaldo Bormida, Morsasco, Mornese, Ovada, Parodi Ligure, Prasco, Roccagrimalda, San Cristoforo, Silvano d'Orba, Tagliolo Monferrato and Trisobbio
The wine is made from the variety Dolcetto (also Uva di Ovada). A maximum of 3% of other authorised, non-aromatic varieties may be used. Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore with different types of wine was highly classified as DOCG in 2008. Other Dolcetto areas in Piedmont are the DOC wines Dolcetto d'Acqui, Dolcetto d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Asti and Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba
