Description to Bouches-du-Rhône

Département with the capital Marseille in the southeast of France on the Mediterranean coast in the Provence region. The predominant appellations are Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, which is located almost exclusively in Bouches-du-Rhône, and Côtes de Provence, which covers the three départements of Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône and Var. In addition to a Bouches-du-Rhône IGP départemental area, there is also the local Alpilles IGP area. Bouches-du-Rhône is also part of the large regional IGP area Méditerranée. The département is one of the largest regional wine producers in France. It produces 85% red wines and 10% rosé wines. They are produced from the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan Noir, Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Cinsaut, Merlot and Syrah. Well known producers are Château de Revelette, Domaine de l'Ile Saint-Pierre, Domaine de Lunard, Domaine de Trévallon, Domaine la Michelle, Mas de Rey and Villa Minna.
