Description to Vins d´Estaing AOC
The appellation, named after the commune of the same name, is located in the north-east of the south-west of France in the department of Aveyron. The former VDQS area was classified as an AOC in 2012. Viticulture here dates back to the 9th century and the first vineyards were planted by the Benedictine monks of Conques. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vines in the municipalities of Coubisou, Estaing and Sébrazac on south-facing steep slopes with a high proportion of slate in the Lot river valley.
The white wines are made from Chenin Blanc, Mauzac and Rousselou (Muscadelle). The rosé and red wines are made from Mansois (Fer), Gamay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Négret de Banhars and Pinotous d'Estaing (Pinot Noir), as well as Abouriou, Castets, Duras, Jurançon, Mouyssaguès and Négrette. Very similar wines are produced in the neighbouring Vins d'Entraygues et du Fel area to the north.
