The winery is located in the municipality of Auernhofen (Maindreieck area) in the German wine-growing region of Franconia. Until 1984, the winery only farmed and bred livestock, but acquired vineyards that year. In 1992, Albrecht Stahl began making his own wines. A wine restaurant is attached. Parallel to his training as a winemaker, his studies in Geisenheim and years of practical experience at the Peter Jakob Kühn winery, his son Christian took over the external operations and vinification in 2000 and now runs the business.
The vineyards cover 15 hectares of vines in the Main valley (Main triangle, Mainviereck), in the Steigerwald area and in the Franconian part of the Tauber valley. They are planted with the white wine varieties Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Scheurebe, Bacchus and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Regent, Schwarzriesling and Tauberschwarz. Since 2004, the wines have not been labelled as Prädikat wines.
The wines are produced in the "Feder Stahl", "Damaszener Stahl" and "Edel Stahl" lines (<40 hl/ha). Since 2005, all wines have been bottled with the STELVIN screw cap. Fine brandies(marc, wine, fruit) and liqueurs are also produced. The winery is a member of the Vielfalter e.V. and Tauberedition associations, as well as a sponsor of Slow Food.
