Terrasses du Larzac AOC |
Description to Terrasses du Larzac AOC
The appellation is located in the north of the French wine-growing region Languedoc. It was classified as AOC in 2005 and belongs to the highest quality category "Crus du Languedoc". The area became known through the wines of Aimé Guibert, who is therefore considered a pioneer, on his Mas de Daumas-Gassac estate in the commune of Aniane. The vineyards cover 570 hectares of vines on sandy, stony limestone soils on the slopes of the Causse du Lazarc plateau. They extend over 32 communes in the département of Hérault. Red wine and rosé are blended from at least 2 of the 3 main grape varieties Grenache Noir (Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre (Monastrell) and Syrah, as well as Carignan Noir (Mazuelo) and Cinsaut. Well-known producers are Château de Jonquières, Coopérative Castelbarry, Domaine des Conquêtes, Domaine La Croix Chaptal, Domaine de Malavieille, Domaine de Montcalmès, Domaine Mon Rêve, Les Vignes Oubliées and Mas des Chimères.
