Description to P.D.O. Mantineia (O.P.A.P.) / Μαντινεία

Appellation (Greek Mandinia) in the district of Arkadia in the heart of the Peloponnese peninsula (Greece). The name is derived from ancient Mantinia, the ruins of which are located in the north of the plateau of the same name. The vineyards cover 620 hectares of vines on soils partly interspersed with limestone in 11 municipalities at 600 to 800 metres above sea level. The dry POP white wine is made from the Moschofilero (85%) and Asprouda varieties. Asproudes (Mz.) is the name given to several independent white grape varieties that are cultivated as a blend. Well-known producers include Boutari, Cambas, Spiropoulos and Tselepos.
