Minervois-La-Livinière AOC |
Description to Minervois-La-Livinière AOC
The appellation is located in the west of the French wine region Languedoc. It forms an enclave in the centre of the AOC Minervois. The red wine was classified as AOC in 1999. It belongs to the highest quality category "Crus du Languedoc". The south-facing vineyards cover around 230 hectares of vines at 220 metres above sea level. They cover the six communes of Azille (in the department of Aude), Azillanet, Cesseras, Félines-Minervois, the eponymous La Livinière and Siran (in the department of Hérault). The red wine is blended from at least 60% of the three main varieties Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre(Monastrell) and Syrah, and a maximum of 40% Lledon Pelut(Garnacha Peluda), Carignan Noir(Mazuelo), Cinsaut, Piquepoul Noir, Terret Noir and Aspiran Noir. It is considered more elegant than the simple Minervois. Well-known producers are Château Cesseras, Château Laville Bertrou, Château de Gourgazaud, Clos Centeilles and Clos d'Ora.
