The winery is located in the municipality of Efringen-Kirchen (Markgräflerland area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. It is managed by Hanspeter Ziereisen. According to the philosophy of the house: "Quality is created in the vineyard".
The vineyards cover nine hectares of vines at single vineyard Ölberg (Efringen-Kirchen). They are planted with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Syrah and Regent, as well as the white wine varieties Gutedel, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer. The vines are generally used for more than 30 years. The quality criteria in the vineyard are extensive foliage care, strict yield reduction and strict selection of the grapes as a prerequisite for healthy and high-quality grapes.
The wines are vinified and marketed according to old vineyard names such as Steingrüble, Tschuppen, Schulen and Rhini. All wines are fermented spontaneously without the use of pure yeasts. The red wines mature in wooden barrels made from local oak or in barriques for up to two years and are bottled without filtration. The musts for the white wines are only clarified by settling. Depending on the type of wine, a long yeast storage period follows.
The top wines from Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc from old vines as well as Chardonnay are bottled without filtration after almost two years in barrels. The best wines of a year are labelled "Jaspis", which means "best of a vintage". Noble sweet wines and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
