The winery is located in the municipality of Gols in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria). It is managed by Gernot and Heike Heinrich. The vineyards cover about 90 hectares of vines and are located on both sides of Lake Neusiedl. This is on both the west side in the cool slopes on the Leithaberg with the most important sites Alter Berg in Winden (limestone) and Edelgraben in Breitenbrunn (slate), and in the warmer, south-facing sites around Gols such as Gabarinza and Salzberg with sandy loam soils and lots of sun. The main focus is on the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch (the lead variety), Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir and Merlot. The most important white wine varieties in the Leithagebirge are Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Traminer and Muskat Ottonel.
Special attention is paid to the right location of the vines or grape varieties in terms of soil type and moisture, exposure (sunlight) and altitude. Through diverse, varietal cover crop between the rows of vines, the biodiversity (variety of species) of plants and microorganisms is promoted with the aim of healthy vines and preventing erosion. In some locations, sheep are used for grazing. Biodynamic viticulture methods were started in 2006 and were the final step in preventive cultivation based on natural preparations. This is done according to certified guidelines of biodynamic viticulture in accordance with the rules of the DEMETER and respekt-BIODYN associations. Both in the vineyard and in the wine cellar, the farm is committed to the minimalist non-invasive principle with as few interventions as possible. These natural processes are observed but influenced as little as possible. The aim is to press authentic wines full of character.
In the cellar, after spontaneous fermentation with the vineyard's or winery's own yeasts, the wines are stored untreated on the fine le es in mostly used wooden barrels (500, 1,500 to 2,700 l as well as wooden fermentation racks with mostly 3,000 l and 1,000 l clay amphorae. Some of the white wines are produced with mash contact and also mature in amphorae. The wines comply with vegan conditions. Premium wines are the red wine cuvées Gabarinza (Zweigelt, Merlot, Blaufränkisch), Pannobile rot (Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch) and Salzberg (Merlot, Blaufränkisch), as well as various red and white wines Leithaberg DAC. Around 500,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Exports are made to more than 20 EU countries, Switzerland, the USA and some Asian countries. The winery is a member of Pannobile, Premium Estates of Austria, DEMETER and respekt-BIODYN.
