Sommières AOC |
Description to Sommières AOC
The appellation Languedoc-Sommières is located in the northeast of the French wine growing region Languedoc. It was classified as AOC in 2011 and belongs to the second quality category "Grands Vins du Languedoc". Viticulture was already practised here in the 6th century before Hristi by the Celts. The vineyards cover around 2,000 hectares of vineyards on soils of limestone, marl, scree and flint. They extend over 18 communities in the Gard department. The area forms a circle 20 km in diameter and is crossed by the Vidourle river. The red wines are blended from at least 2 of the 3 main grape varieties Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre(Monastrell) and Syrah, as well as Carignan Noir(Mazuelo) and Cinsaut.
