Description to Matera DOC
DOC area for white, red and rosé wines in the Italian region of Basilicata. The zone covers the entire province of Matera. The Bianco (also called Passito) is made from at least 85% Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata. The Rosso is blended from Sangiovese (60%), Primitivo = Tribidrag (30%) and other authorised varieties (max. 10%). The Rosato is made from at least 90% Primitivo. The white Greco must contain at least 85% Greco Bianco.
The red Moro (also as Riserva) is blended from Cabernet Sauvignon (max. 60%), Primitivo (max. 20%), Merlot (max. 10%) and other authorised varieties (max. 10%). The red Primitivo (also called Passito) is made from at least 90% of this variety. There is also a white Spumante (85% Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata) and a Spumante Rosé (90% Primitivo). Both are produced according to the Metodo tradizionale (bottle fermentation).
