Description to Bandol AOC
The appellation is located in the very south of the French wine region of Provence on the Mediterranean coast. It is named after the name of the port from which the wines used to be shipped all over the world with a "B" on the barrels. Wine-growing here dates back to before the arrival of the Romans in 125 BC. The vineyards cover almost 1,500 hectares of vines in eight municipalities. The red wines in particular are among the best in Provence. They are a blend of at least two varieties of Mourvèdre (at least 50%), Grenache and Cinsaut, and a maximum of 15% in total or 10% each of Syrah and Carignan blended. The rosé is produced from the same varieties, but without the minimum percentage required. The white wine consists of at least 60% Bourboulenc, Clairette and Ugni Blanc, and a maximum of 40% Sauvignon Blanc. Well known producers are Domaine Barthes, Château des Baumelles, La Bastide Blanche, Domaine Castell-Reynoard, Domaine de Frégate, Domaine de l'Hermitage, Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles, Domaine de la Laidière, Château de Pibarnon, Château de Salettes, Château la Rouvière, Domaine Sorin, Domaine la Suffrene, Domaine Tempier and Domaine Vannières
