Weingut PRIMUS

The winery with a 400-year-old winegrower's house is located in the municipality of Spielfeld-Grassnitzberg on the South Styrian Wine Route in the South Styrian wine growing region (Austria). Some guest rooms are offered for rent. Since 1998 the business has been run by the brothers Christian (cellar master) and Thomas (vineyards, sales) Polz. The vineyards cover 16 hectares of vineyards in the areas of Grassnitzberg and Zieregg, as well as in Slovenia just 400m away as the crow flies. They are planted with the white wine varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Weißburgunder(Pinot Blanc), Chardonnay (Morillon), Welschriesling and Traminer. Natural viticulture with gentle soil cultivation is practised.

Through selective manual harvesting in several passes, only physiologically ripe grapes are processed. There are two wine lines. The wines of the "Klassik" line are aged in stainless steel tanks. The vineyard wines "Grassnitzberg" are vinifiedwith some wood, the vineyard wines "Zieregg" at least 18 months partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in wooden barrels. Specialities are the noble sour Traminer balsamic vinegar, whichcan be usedas a salad dressing or as adrinking vinegar, and the white wine cuvée "Apollo" from Slovenia.
