The winery is located in the municipality of Vogtsburg-Schelingen (Kaiserstuhl area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. The Schätzle family has been cultivating the winegrowing tradition in the centre of the Kaiserstuhl since the 18th century. Since 1994, the winery has been run by Thomas and his wife Friederike Schätzle. Since 2013, daughter Franziska Schätzle (educated as Dipl. Ing. Weinbau & Oenologie in Geisenheim and the Université de Dijon with professional stations in Burgundy, Bordeaux, Spain and New Zealand) has been working in the business. The vineyards cover 13 hectares in the single vineyard sites Bassgeige (Oberbergen), Kirchberg (Schelingen) and Steinhalde (Amoltern)

They are planted with the white wine varieties Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Kerner, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir and Merlot. The focus is on the Burgundy varieties with over 80%. The winery's goal is to "bring the fruity elegance of the Lösster terraces and the minerality of the basalt soils naturally into the glass". The "RS" wines (Reserve Schätzle) are at the top, followed by the grey and pinot noir "Schatz vom Vulkan". Bottle-fermented sparkling wines with long yeast storage and in-house noble brandies (yeast, marc, fruit) are also produced. The winery is with the Generation Riesling association
