Schleswig-Holstein |
Description to Schleswig-Holstein
The new wine-growing area in Germany was approved in 2008. Strictly speaking, however, it is not a wine-growing area, as no quality wine may be produced here, only a "Schleswig-Holstein Landwein". A total of ten hectares of vineyards may be used for winegrowing, which was made possible by the waiver of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The first use was vineyards planted by the Rheingau winery Ress Balthasar on the North Sea island of Sylt in the municipality of Keitum, which belongs to Schleswig-Holstein. This is the most northerly vineyard in Germany.
