Saint-Christol AOC |
Description to Saint-Christol AOC
The appellation Languedoc Saint-Christol is located in the east of the French wine growing region Languedoc. The former VDQS area Coteaux de Saint-Christol was classified as AOC in 2011 and belongs to the second quality category "Grands Vins du Languedoc". The origin of the eponymous municipality goes back to the Order of the Knights of St. John, who founded a commandery in 1139. Since that time, wine has been grown here. The vineyards cover 150 hectares at an altitude of 50 to 100 metres above sea level around Saint-Christol in the department of Hérault. The red wine is blended from at least 2 of the 3 main grape varieties Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre(Monastrell) and Syrah, as well as Carignan Noir(Mazuelo), Cinsaut, Counoise and Piquepoul Noir.
