Reuilly AOC |
Description to Reuilly AOC
The appellation is located in central France in the Loire wine-growing region in the vicinity of the Quincy appellation, about 70 km from the Loire. It was awarded AC status for white wine in 1937, rosé and red wine followed in 1961. It is a very old wine-growing region that was first mentioned in writing in the 9th century. The document in question states that Reuilly was bequeathed by King Scrooge I (608/610-639) to the Abbey of Saint-Denis, with its lands, forests and vineyards. The area covers the seven communes of Cerbois, Chéry, Diou, Lazenay Lury, Preuilly and Reuilly in the two departments of Indre and Cher.
The vineyards cover some 200 hectares on a limestone base with sand and gravel deposits on the banks of the three rivers Cher, Théols and Arnon. The climate is continental. The white wines are made from Sauvignon Blanc. The red and rosé wines are blended from mainly Pinot Noir (with about 50% of the area) and Pinot Gris. Well-known producers include Bernard Aujard, Domaine Henri Beurdin, Francois Charpentier, Gerard Cordier, Pascal Desroches, Claude Lafond, Les Poëte, Denis Jamain - Domaine de Reilly, Domaine Valéry Renaudat, Jean-Michel Sorbe and Jacques Vincent.
