Description to Grignolino d'Asti DOC
DOC area for red wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone covers 232 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Agliano, Antignano, Asti, Azzano, Belveglio, Calliano, Casorzo, Castagnole Lanze, Castagnole Monferrato, Castell'Alfero, Castello d'Annone, Castelnuovo Calcea, Cerro Tanaro, Castiglione, Costigliole, Grana, Grazzano, Isola, Moncalvo, Montaldo Scarampi, Montemagno, Mombercelli, Montegrosso, Mongardino, Penango, Portacomaro, Refrancore, Revigliasco, Rocca d'Arazzo, Rocchetta Tanaro, Scurzolengo, Tonco, Viarigi, Vigliano and Vinchio in the province of Asti. The wine is made from Grignolino (max. 90%) and Freisa (max. 10%). It must have at least 11% alcohol by volume; no maturing period is prescribed. Another DOC area in Piedmont with a red wine of the variety is Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese.
