Description to D.O. Ribera del Júcar
The DO area, named after the river of the same name, is located in the east of the Spanish region of Castilla-La Mancha. It was classified in 2003. The vineyards cover 9,200 hectares of vines in seven municipalities in the province of Cuenca on both sides of the Júcar at an altitude of 650 to 750 metres above sea level. The climate is continental and dry, with extremely hot summers and very cold winters. The soil consists of loose, gravelly rubble on the surface and clayey soil in the subsoil with good water retention capacity. The area is only suitable for red wines made from the authorised varieties Bobal, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cencibel (Tempranillo).
