Description to Cortona DOC

DOC area for red and white wines in the Italian region of Tuscany. The zone covers a part of the mountain town of Cortona in the province of Arezzo, situated above the Val di Chiana. The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, the rest can be other approved varieties. These are the white wines Chardonnay, Grechetto(Grechetto di Orvieto) and Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc), as well as the red wines (all of them also available as Riserva) Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Syrah. The Rosso is made from Syrah (50-60%), Merlot (10-20%) and other authorised varieties (max. 30%). The white Vin Santo (also as Riserva) is blended in any use of Trebbiano Toscano, Grechetto and Malvasia Bianca Lunga (to 70%), as well as white Sangiovese (max. 30%). The rosé Vin Santo Occhio di Pernice is produced from Sangiovese and/or Malvasia Nera(Malvasia Nera di Brindisi).
