The winery is located in the municipality of Bockenau in the Ellerbach valley in the German wine-growing region of Nahe. The family has been growing wine here for more than 200 years. Under the management of Hans, Karin and Tim Fröhlich (responsible for the cellar since the 1995 vintage), the traditional winery was admitted to the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) in 2001. Today it is run by son Tim Fröhlich and his wife Nicole, the sixth generation of the family, supported by his sister Meike and her husband Mats Genheimer.

The vineyards cover 21 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Felseneck and Stromberg (Bockenau), Frühlingsplätzchen and Halenberg (Monzingen), as well as Felsenberg and Kupfergrube (Schlossböckelheim). They are 85% planted with Riesling, and 15% with Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The reduced-yield grapes are selectively harvested by hand.
The wines are fermented spontaneously in stainless steel tanks and matured according to site. The product range is organised according to the VDP classification model. Around 120,000 bottles of wine are produced each year.
