The winery is located in the municipality of Ilbesheim (area Südliche Weinstraße) in the German wine region of the Palatinate
. The traditional family has been growing wine for many generations. The business is managed by Boris Kranz and his wife Kerstin. It was largely thanks to his efforts that the Ilbesheim Kalmit
was recognised as an official single vineyard site in 2008. The vineyards cover 17 hectares of vine area. They are planted with 60% white wine and 40% red wine varieties. These are mainly Riesling, White Burgundy, Sylvaner, Auxerrois and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as Pinot Noir. The wines are produced in three lines: site wines, estate wines and local wines. Some of the white wines are fermented cool after maceration and matured in steel tanks or large wooden barrels. The red wines mature in barriques. Fine spirits (various fruit brandies, yeast, grape, marc, cider) and bottle-fermented sparkling wines (Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé) are also produced. The winery has been a member of the VDP
(Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) since the beginning of 2012.
