The winery is located in the municipality of Essenheim ( Nierstein area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. The traditional family has been growing grapes here for around 350 years. As a result of the persecution of the Huguenots, François Breiniville immigrated from Villepot-Loraine (northwest France) to Rheinhessen in 1655. He married in Essenheim and established a new existence in agriculture and viticulture with his wife Christina. Today, four generations live and work on the estate. These are the senior bosses Adam Braunewell and Axel with his wife Ursula (vineyards), as well as the sons Christian (cellar technology) and Stefan (wine tastings).
The vineyards cover 28 hectares of vines in the Teufelspfad (Essenheim) and Blume (Elsheim) single vineyard sites. They are planted with the white wine varieties Pinot Gris and Riesling( 30% each), Chardonnay and Sauvignon Bl anc, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir (20%), St. Laurent, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The farm is a member of Fair'n Green and is managed according to environmentally friendly, ecological aspects with the aim of sustainability. This includes, among other things, cover crop for the purpose of supporting biodiversity (species diversity), use of alternative pesticides, collection of rainwater and production of solar power.
The large product range is divided into the lines estate wines, local wines and site wines. The latter also include the François and Réserve lines. The white single-vineyard wines are fermented spontaneously. The red wines are partly bottled without filtration. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, in large wooden barrels (piece, half piece) or in barrique barrels. In years with suitable weather conditions, sweet wines such as Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese are also vinified. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and Secco (sparkling wines) are also produced. Around 200,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the Selection Rheinhessen and Generation Riesling winegrowers' associations.
