The company operates the three wineries TRUS, NIVARIUS and PROELIO in the regions of Castilla y León and La Rioja. The head office is located in the municipality of Nalda, south of the provincial capital Logroño. The owner is D. Javier Palacios. The company owns a total of 275 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards are cultivated according to certified organic viticulture rules, with environmental protection and sustainability playing an important role. The wines are not (yet) certified as organic.
TRUS - Ribera del Duero
The main winery is located in Pesquera del Duero in the DO area of Ribera del Duero. TRUS is an acronym for Tierra, Roble, Uva, Sol (Earth, Oak, Grape, Sun). It was founded in 1999. The vineyards are mostly located at 700 to 800 metres above sea level and cover 145 hectares of vines, some of which are very old. In addition, grapes are purchased from 25 winegrowers who cultivate 50 hectares.
Mainly different clones of the red wine variety Tempranillo, as well as smaller quantities of the white wine variety Albillo Mayor are cultivated and processed. The wines are produced in the quality classes Roble (oak), Crianza, Reserva and Parcelarios (parcel wine). The red wine "Punto Geodesico" is made from single-varietal Tempranillo from four plots with calcareous and sandy clay soils at 1,000 metres above sea level and aged for 12 months in 225 and 500-litre French and American oak barrels.
The red wine "Pico de Luyas" is made from single-varietal Tempranillo from the 50-year-old vineyard "La Horra" with calcareous clay soils at 900 metres above sea level, fermented spontaneously and matured for 16 months in new barrels with daily bâtonnage of the fine lees and bottled without racking, clarification or filtration.
NIVARIUS - Rioja (white wines)
The winery is located in the municipality of Camino Nalda a Viguera in the Rioja DOCa area. It was founded in 2013 and produces exclusively white wines. The name Nivarius symbolises fresh, fruity and acidic white wines with the potential for longevity. The vineyards cover 60 hectares of vines. In addition, grapes are purchased from 3 winegrowers who cultivate 30 hectares.
The white wine varieties Tempranillo Blanco, Garnacha Blanca, Viura and the reactivated Maturana Blanca are cultivated. The wines are produced in the quality classes Joven, Genérico, Reserva and Viñedo Singular (single-varietal wines). The white wine "Finca La Nevera" is made from single-varietal Maturana Blanca from a 4.3 hectare plot on sandy colluvium rock at 850 metres above sea level. It matures for three years in stainless steel tanks on the fine lees and then for two years in the bottle.
The white wine "Valdesabril" is made from a single variety of Viura from a 70-year-old plot at 630 metres above sea level on sandy and ferruginous soils with a limestone bedrock. It matures for 12 months in lightly toasted 35-hectolitre French oak barrels. A Pétillant Naturel(sparkling wine) is also produced.
PROELIO - Rioja (red wines)
The winery is located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. It was founded in 2013. The vineyards cover 70 hectares of vines. In addition, grapes are purchased from two winegrowers (20 hectares). They are planted with the red wine varieties Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta and Graciano. The wines are produced in the quality categories Reserva, Gran Reserva, Vendimia Seleccionada (selected grapes) and Viñedo Singular (single-varietal wines).
The red wine "La Canal del Rojo" is made purely from Garnacha Tinta from a small plot of only 0.35 hectares with 80-year-old vines with a high planting density at 670 metres above sea level on sandy and ferruginous soils with a limestone bedrock. It matures for 15 months in 20-hectolitre French oak barrels. The red wine "Puerto Rubio" is made from a single variety of Tempranillo from a 1.63-hectare plot of 60-year-old vines at 488 metres above sea level. It matures for 18 months in 2,000-litre French oak barrels.
