St. Amour AOC |
Description to St. Amour AOC
The northernmost of the ten cru sites in Beaujolais, France, located on the border with Mâconnais. It is named after the municipality of Saint-Amour-Bellevue. The name comes from a Roman soldier called St-Amateur who converted to Christianity and founded a monastery here. The vineyards, with 320 hectares of vines, are located on the eastern side of the Bessay hill and the slopes of the Colline d'Eglise. The red wines are made from the Gamay variety. Wine may also be marketed under Mâcon-Villages.
