Saint-Véran AOC |
Description to Saint-Véran AOC
The communal appellation is located as an enclave at the southern end of the Mâconnais region in French Burgundy. It should not be confused with the municipality of the same name in Provence. The area is divided by the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. The vineyards cover over 700 hectares of vines in the eight communes of Chânes, Chasselas, Leynes, Davayé, Prissé, Saint-Amour (one of the Beaujolais Cru communes), Saint-Vérand and Solutré in the department of Saône-et-Loire. The "d" of the eponymous commune of Vérand was omitted from the appellation name so as not to offend the other villages and to gain acceptance.
White wines made from Chardonnay are authorised. Alternatively, the wines can also be marketed as Beaujolais Blanc, Bourgogne Blanc or Mâcon-Villages. If the alcohol content is at least 12% by volume, a vineyard may be mentioned on the label. Well-known producers include Château du Carruge, Château Fuissé, Corsin, Fréderéric Curis, Demessey, Duboeuf, Roger Lassarat, Olivier Merlin, Deux Roches, Saumaize-Michelin and Valanges.
