Saint-Christol AOC |
Description to Saint-Christol AOC
The Languedoc Saint-Christol appellation is located in the east of the French wine-growing region of Languedoc. The former VDQS area Coteaux de Saint-Christol was classified as an AOC in 2011 and belongs to the second quality category "Grands Vins du Languedoc". The origins of the eponymous municipality go back to the Order of St John, who founded a Commandery in 1139. Viticulture has been practised here since then. The vineyards cover 150 hectares of vines at 50 to 100 metres above sea level around Saint-Christol in the department of Hérault. The red wine is blended from at least two of the three main grape varieties Grenache Noir (Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre (Monastrell) and Syrah, as well as Carignan Noir (Mazuelo), Cinsaut, Counoise and Piquepoul Noir.
