Italy Friuli/Venezia-Giulia
Ramandolo DOCG
Ramandolo DOCG |
Description to Ramandolo DOCG
DOCG area for white wine in the Italian region Friuli Venezia Giulia. The classification took place in 2001, until then the wine was included in the DOC area Colli Orientali del Friuli. The zone includes parts of the municipalities of Nimis (with the Ramandolo district) and Tarcento in the province of Udine. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, the bottle label can indicate Vigna followed by the name of the vineyard.
The vineyards, with about 50 hectares of vineyards, are situated on steep southern slopes at an altitude between 250 and over 400 metres above sea level. To the north, the area is protected by the 1,700-metre-high Monte Bernadia. Special climatic conditions prevail, which have a positive effect. During the day there is intensive sunshine and at night there is a drastic cooling down. The sweet white wine is made from 100% pure dried grapes of the Verduzzo Friulano variety, known here as Verduzzo Giallo or Ramandolo, and must have an alcohol content of at least 14% vol.
