Description to Garda DOC
DOC area for red wines, rosé wines and white wines in the Italian regions of Lombardy and Veneto. The zone includes 25 municipalities in the province of Brescia and 6 in the province of Mantua (both Lombardy), and 44 in the province of Verona (Veneto) in the eastern part of Lake Garda. The Classico zone includes the municipalities in the province of Brescia. Here, for grapes from classified vineyards, the designation Vigna can be given followed by the name of the vineyard. The geographical indications Moniga, Raffa, Picedo and Mocasina are possible
The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, the rest may be other approved varieties. The red wines are Barbera, Cabernet (Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Carmenère), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Corvina(Corvina Veronese), Marzemino, Merlot and Pinot Nero(Pinot Noir). The white wines are Chardonnay, Cortese, Garganega, Pinot Bianco(Pinot Blanc), Pinot Grigio(Pinot Gris), Riesling, Riesling Italico(Welschriesling), Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc) and Tai or Friulano(Sauvignonasse).
The Classico Rosso (also called Superiore) and Classico Chiaretto wines are produced from Groppello di Mocasina and Groppello Gentile (30%), Marzemino (5%), Sangiovese (5%), Barbera (5%) and other authorised varieties (max. 10%). The Classico Groppello (also called Riserva) is produced from Groppello di Mocasina (Groppello di Santo Stefano) and Groppello Gentile. The Bianco Classico is produced from Riesling and/or Riesling Italico (zum. 70%). A Spumante in the flavours secco and amabile there are of Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Riesling. The Frizzante is pressed from Chardonnay and/or Garganega.
