The winery is located in the municipality of Guntramsdorf in the wine-growing region of Thermenregion (Lower Austria). The family has lived here for 300 years. A wine tavern is attached. The business is run by Gregor Schup. The vineyards cover 30 hectares of vines on the Eichkogel (Guntramsdorf) and in the Schwaben vineyard (Gumpoldskirchen) with over 200,000 vines. They are planted with the white wine varieties Roter Veltliner, Rotgipfler, Zierfandler, Gelber Muskateller, Chardonnay and Riesling, as well as the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Blaufränkisch. With 33,000 vines, Eichkogel is home to one of the largest Pinot Noir vineyards in Austria. A strong yield reduction is carried out as a qualitative measure.
Natural cultivation is carried out according to KIP rules. This includes cover crop and pest control using the confusion method. Only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are selected by hand for processing. Fermentation is always spontaneous. The wines are matured in stainless steel (fruity white and red wines), the stronger wines in large wooden barrels or in barriques. Top quality wines can mature for up to four years. Long-lived wines are bottled without filtration. In years with suitable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslese wines are made from 60 to 70-year-old vines. The wines are exported to Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, China, Great Britain, Liechtenstein and the Netherlands. A yeast brandy is also produced.
