2006 Carnuntum Ried Rosenberg Blaufränkisch trocken, Lower Austria/Niederösterreich, Austria

Developed, firm, somewhat tobacco and a little sooty-woody aroma of ripe black berries and dried plums with dark ethereal spice, dried herbs and tar. Ripe, somewhat warm dark fruit, clearly developed, toasty, bitter chocolate and smoky wood spice, a little pepper in the background, friable tannin, lots of power and good persistence, toasted oniony spice in the background, some spicy heat, a hint of stewed plums, quite compact construction, very good finish with partly boiled down dark juice but also bite. In amazing condition.

Editor note: Firm nose, slightly tart black berries and cherries, light spicy oak, herbaceous and mineral notes, hint of malt. Full-bodied, firm and quite concentrated on the palate, dark, ripe fruit, malted notes, some dark chocolate, spicy oak, very creamy, slightly overripe, still youthful, good persistence and has some depth, more prominent dark chocolate on a good finish.
