The traditional winery is located in the municipality of Forst (Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz. It has been family-owned since 1620, making it one of the oldest wineries in Germany. Today it is run by Markus Spindler, the 11th generation. The estate is connected to a tavern that is open all year round and serves local dishes and its own wines. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Elster, Freundstück, Jesuitengarten, Kirchenstück, Musenhang, Pechstein, Stift and Ungeheuer (Forst), Herrgottsacker (Deidesheim), as well as Nußbien and Reiterpfad (Ruppertsberg). They are planted with 85% Riesling, as well as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Since the 2015 vintage, production has been in accordance with certified organic viticulture rules. This includes natural cover crop, organic fertilisation with compost from our own production, straw and rock flour, as well as the use of the muddling method against the grape berry moth and the renunciation of herbicides and insecticides

80% of the grapes are harvested selectively by hand, in the case of single-vineyard wines in two to three passes. The grapes are gently processed using a pneumatic press. During vinification, three levels of mechanical stress are kept to a minimum and no pumping over is required until the first racking. Part of the fermentation is spontaneous. Depending on the type of wine, this takes place in double-piece wooden barrels or in stainless steel with, if necessary, long storage on the fine yeast. Strictly separated, single-varietal vinification preserves the highest degree of typicity in terms of varieties and sites, resulting in finely fruity and pure-toned wines. The product range is divided according to the VDP classification model into Gutswein, Ortswein, Erste Lage and Grosse Lage. Sweet wines are designated with the Prädikat. Bottle-fermented sparkling wine and grape marc brandy are also produced. The winery is a member of the Wine Changes association
